 IT IS OFFICIAL

I haven’t said much about the girls and their dogs lately, but the final results have come out for 2007, and all three girls have qualified for the National Jr. Obedience Invitational.  With Chetta only starting in September we didn’t think she would have much of a chance to get enough points, but she pulled out a High Scoring Jr. over her sisters at one of the trials which gave her enough points to put her in there.  This year they are only inviting the top 10 Jr. Handlers in the country so it is quite an honor to have three of those spots held by the girls.  This is Inky’s last Jr. year, so this is the only time that could happen.  It has been a lot of fun to find something that the girls can share together and an added bonus that they have been able to do so well at it.

We have to give a huge amount of credit to my brother, the dog trainer.  While the girls put a lot of time and effort into training their dogs, he has taught them techniques that work and take the frustration out of the process (for the most part).  He has also taught them that the one of the best parts of the training is to play with your dogs and to have a great relationship with them.  That way, even though they respect you and look to you for direction, they want to work for you because they adore you, not because you are a hard task master.  Thanks Uncle P!

Inky also qualified for the adult All Star Invitational in Utility and Open.  To do this you have to accumulate points by getting at least a 191 out of 200 score (not an easy task) and having a total for the year that places you among the top 50 handlers in the country in your class.  Way to go girls!  The big show is in June, so it will be a while before the actual competition occurs.

Sorry I haven’t been commenting recently.  We have been passing around the flu, and it caught up with me this week.  I have a short morning and then we are off to speech and debate class this afternoon, so I hope to return tomorrow to catch up with everyone.

Verse of the day:

~2 Corinthians 1:3-5~

3)  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,

4)  who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

5)  For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.

~ Blessings ~

If I treated my dogs, I would have to treat all of them, plus our HUGE yard, plus the house.

And I can't get permission from my mom to treat the house. Even if I pay for the dang stuff, she would still find an excuse not to do it. And If I can't treat the house, there is no point in treating the dogs unless I want to waste alot of money. Right about now is the best chance to get rid of the bugs because there are so few due to the cold weather. We even have the treatment that someone else bought us. Its just been sitting on our fridge.... she always has a ridiculous excuse not to use the stuff.

I honestly do not understand her way of thinking. There is no logic to it. Its complete insanity.

We've used topical treatments in the past...and they never really worked. The dogs would still scratch and cry about the fleas. :|
The way I figure is that it doesn't work when there are just too many fleas. *shrugs*

I've been looking up natural flea treatments that are inexpensive. Instead of buying flea spray or something like Advantage I can make a sprays and shampoos out of lemons, tea tree oil, coconut oil, eucalyptus oil. And for the carpets I can use Table salt or Borax...although I talked to my mom about this last night and she said that stuff would ruin her vacuum cleaner. I think she's nuts... I was reading and talking to people all day about Borax and they never said anything about it ruining their vacuum. But I guess I'm going to look into that and see if it actually does lol.

RYC: I actually don't think it will be all that tough.
Last years schedule:
High school 35 hours a week.
Training classes 6 hours a week.
ROP 8-12 hours a week.
Tutoring/after school work for teachers 4-6 hours a week.
If you include dog shows, thats another 28 hours a week.

Makes that 87 hours a week I'm working.

College schedule:
College 20 hours a week.
Full time job 30-40 hours a week.
Small part-time job at Humane Society or possibly college 10 hours or less a week.
I will only be going to Monday night training classes, 3 hours a week.

I am not sure if I will be competing if I'm moved out. If I do, I bet its only going to be with Sal's dogs and only on Sundays. So 12 hours a week.

Makes a total of 85.

They even out.
I am truly not worried about working full time while going to college. Throughout highschool I have lived on a busy, hectic, tiring schedule. Nothing new there. lol.

Yea, college courses are more work. I took the Advanced Placement History last year and we had about 20 pages of reading, if not more, almost everynight. A couple essays a week. At one point in time we had to read a book and answer 5 essay questions about it in a weeks time. lol.... Hard, but the best class of my entire high school career.

And actually, from what I hear from alot of other students at Northwest, it's pretty easy going. Its just community so its not going to be like if I was going to Ohio State or anything. The only classes you really have to worry about getting alot of homework in is Math...and even then some of the professors don't even give out homework. You are just expected to show up, learn it, and pass your final exam.

But then again, my major could be different. We'll just have to see. :P

Oh, also.. I also came across DE while researching yesterday. Sounds great but I was trying to avoid having to order anything off the internet. Was hoping I could find stuff at the local grocery store so that I can pick it up whenever I need it.

I heard that you can pick it up at pool stores or something..but we don't have any of those around here. We have a Town and Country, but I'm not sure if they would have it either.

For me, as a pretty protective mom, I think it's not in a kid's best interest to be out so late.  I'm glad your kids don't want to do that-  my older daughter (15) has never even asked to do that... but she has a different personality from my younger daughter (and all the influence from her new friends at public school- it's like these kids' parents just don't care how late they stay out or what they do.  I'm sure some of their parents must care... a vast majority of them don't seem to care, though.  Either they are very trusting, or very permissive.).
